Why Clean Steam Needs Specialist PRVs
Standard industrial pressure reducing valves are not suitable for clean steam systems. Clean steam — used in pharmaceutical sterilisation (SIP), food processing, and biotech applications — condenses to water that must meet pharmaceutical water quality standards. PRVs in clean steam lines must therefore be constructed entirely of 316L stainless steel with electropolished internal surfaces, sanitary connections (Tri-clamp or DIN 11851), and no materials that could contaminate the condensate.
PureSys India supplies Valsteam ADCA clean steam PRVs from the ADCAPure range. View our Valsteam ADCA clean steam PRV page or all clean steam PRVs we carry.
The ADCAPure Range — Valsteam ADCA’s Clean Steam PRV Series
Valsteam ADCA’s ADCAPure product family is manufactured in ISO 14644-1 certified clean rooms and assembled with USP Class VI-compliant seals. All wetted surfaces are 316L stainless steel with controlled surface finish (Ra ≤ 0.51 µm internal). Here are the main models:
P161 — Angle-Body, Direct-Acting PRV
- Body configuration: Angle design (inlet and outlet at 90°)
- Operating principle: Direct-acting, diaphragm-sensing
- Loading: Available as spring-loaded or dome-loaded
- Connections: Tri-clamp or DIN 11851 sanitary fittings
- Best for: Applications where the angle body simplifies piping layout; dome-loading version suits applications requiring remote set-point adjustment
- Pressure range: Outlet 0.5–6 bar g (spring) / remote set with dome loading
P163 — Inline, Direct-Acting PRV
- Body configuration: Inline (straight-through) design
- Operating principle: Direct-acting, diaphragm-sensing
- Loading: Spring-loaded or dome-loaded
- Connections: Tri-clamp — clamped body for easy disassembly during CIP/SIP
- Best for: Straight pipeline runs where an angle body would complicate layout; the clamped body allows fast in-line maintenance without cutting pipe
- Key advantage over P161: Inline installation, easier CIP/SIP drain-ability
P173 — Direct-Acting, Spring-Loaded PRV
- Body configuration: Compact direct-acting design
- Operating principle: Spring-loaded, diaphragm-sensing
- Best for: Clean steam and high-purity gas pressure reduction where a straightforward, low-maintenance design is preferred
- Applications: Pharmaceutical utilities, laboratory steam, clean steam distribution headers
P160G — Sanitary Angle PRV (High-Purity Finish)
- Body configuration: Angle design with enhanced sanitary specification
- Surface finish: Wetted parts ≤ 0.51 µm Ra — meeting the highest GMP surface finish requirements
- Best for: WFI (Water For Injection) steam systems and highest-grade pharmaceutical clean steam where surface finish specification is critical
P130L — Low-Flow PRV for High-Purity Applications
- Optimised for: Very low flow rates — laboratory and analytical clean steam systems
- Best for: Small autoclaves, laboratory sterilisers, sampling systems, and research facilities where flow demand is minimal but pressure accuracy is critical
Model Comparison Table
| Model | Body | Loading | Key Feature | Best Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| P161 | Angle | Spring / Dome | Versatile, remote setpoint option | General clean steam PRV duty |
| P163 | Inline | Spring / Dome | Easy CIP/SIP, clamped body | Straight-run piping, frequent maintenance |
| P173 | Compact | Spring | Simple, low-maintenance | Clean steam headers, lab steam |
| P160G | Angle | Spring | Highest surface finish Ra ≤ 0.51µm | WFI steam, highest GMP grade |
| P130L | Compact | Spring | Low-flow optimised | Labs, small autoclaves, sampling |
Spring-Loaded vs Dome-Loaded: Which to Choose?
- Spring-loaded: Simple, self-contained, set pressure fixed by spring compression. No external connections needed. Ideal for fixed, stable process pressures.
- Dome-loaded: Outlet pressure set by a remote pilot pressure (pneumatic). Allows remote set-point adjustment and tighter pressure accuracy across varying flow rates. Used where process pressure needs frequent adjustment or remote control.
Regulatory Compliance
All ADCAPure PRVs comply with: PED 2014/68/EU, FDA 21 CFR, USP Class VI seals, ISPE clean steam guidelines, and are manufactured in ISO 14644-1 clean rooms.
