What Are Check Valves?
Check valves (also called non-return valves) allow fluid to flow in one direction only, automatically preventing backflow when flow stops or reverses. In steam and condensate systems, check valves protect pumps, compressors, and steam traps from reverse flow damage.
PureSys India supplies GESTRA check valves — engineered for demanding steam and industrial fluid applications. View all check valves we carry.
GESTRA Check Valve Range
Lift Check Valves
GESTRA lift check valves use a guided disc or ball that lifts off the seat under forward flow and seats automatically when flow stops. Advantages:
- Tight shut-off — prevents reverse flow reliably
- Suitable for steam, condensate, water, and gas
- Available in horizontal and vertical (upward flow) installation
- Low pressure drop in open position
Non-Return Valves for Condensate Systems
In condensate return lines, check valves prevent back-flooding of steam traps and pumps. GESTRA’s stainless steel non-return valves are specifically designed for condensate service — resisting corrosion from flash steam and oxygen-laden condensate.
Swing Check Valves
GESTRA swing check valves use a hinged disc that swings open with forward flow and closes under gravity or backpressure. Ideal for low-velocity applications and water systems where a disc check valve would not seal effectively.
Key Applications
- Condensate return line protection
- Pump discharge lines — preventing backflow on pump stop
- Steam trap outlets — preventing reverse flow flooding traps
- Boiler feedwater lines
- Compressed air and gas systems
